Recommended Readings...

Books!

We all like books, don't we? Sometimes there are really great books on writing (I know, non-fiction, but still!) that are worth reading. Other books on this list have good things going for them too that are worth modeling.

"Writing the Breakout Novel"

by Donald Mass

This book is an awesome resource if you really want to write something that people will look at on the shelf and just be dying to pick up. So really... Grab a copy!

"The Divine Drama"

by Kurt Bruner

We've written posts on this, but this book really expounds on how God is the original storyteller. Sometimes we don't want to read about just writing. We need to hear about the heart of a storyteller too.

"The Christian Writer's Market Guide 2012"

by Jerry B. Jenkins

So once you've written something, where should you send it? What publishing houses are looking for your genre? And what Writer's Conferences are being hosted this year? 2013 hasn't come out yet, but this one is 2012's. I love this book.

"The Hunger Games"

by Suzanne Collins

Sounds odd, but something crucial to plot is that all a character truly cares for has to be put at stake. Hunger Games is a prime example.

"The Rose Legacy"

by Kristen Heitzmann

Beware! It's a Historical Christian Romance! But honestly, this book has quickly become a personal favorite. The author traditionally is a suspense novelist, but she put those skills to use in this series. Suspense is something that keeps your reader hooked and on the edge of their seat. It does ANY author good to learn how to use suspenseful techniques.
